Looking to identify how dietary
patterns affect your health?
We address the why behind nutrition-related health concerns, supporting natural healing for the long term.
One of the pillars of Chinese medicine, along with acupuncture, massage, meditation, and movement, is dietary therapy and nutrition.
Diet and Nutrition
“Let food be your first medicine…” —Hippocrates
“The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.”
—Thomas Edison
“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.” —La Rochefoucauld
“He that takes medicine and neglects diet wastes the skills of the physician.” —Chinese proverb
“Those who think they have no time for healthy eating, will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” —Edward Stanley
“Diet is the essential key to all successful healing. Without a proper balanced diet, the effectiveness of herbal treatment is very limited.”
—Michael Tierra, C.A., N.D.
Traditional Chinese doctors always combine dietary change with acupuncture. We can recommend gradual changes that are easy to implement, as well as resources to support you in making these shifts. Our recommendations will be based on traditional oriental medicine concepts as well as modern natural medicine research. We will help you find a diet that is affordable, workable, and fits within your preferences as well as your need for specific nutrition.
In traditional Chinese medicine it is known that certain foods in excess damage specific organs and other foods nourish certain organs. Your acupuncturist will advise you on what foods to avoid and which to use to enhance your health. The detrimental effects of poor diet may lessen the effectiveness of the acupuncture treatment process. By continually consuming over-processed and refined foods, and consuming certain foods that we know undermine the health of certain organs, we damage ourselves in ways that make it difficult for acupuncture to help.

We work with you to find the best combination for your unique condition. Here’s how our specialized combination of four powerful, time-tested, 100% natural therapies work to heal your anxiety and insomnia and remind your body how to live in health.
Gentle Acupuncture
Our specialty is gentle acupuncture. Acupuncture has been healing bodies for centuries, by awakening and stimulating your own body’s innate healing process. It restores cells and tissues, cleans up what doesn’t belong there, and gets blood flow moving to reduce pain.
Herbal Supplements
Herbal supplements simultaneously cure and strengthen the body. This is an important approach for anxiety and insomnia — herbal supplements can trigger great relief while working on strengthening the body to prevent further problems and degeneration. This combination makes herbal medicine particularly well-suited to addressing all kinds of anxiety, insomnia and its causes.
Functional Nervous System Support
When your nerves, brain and cells are fully nourished with the specific nutrients they need, these tissues naturally function at a very high level. When tissues are functioning at a high level, there’s far less opportunity for issues to set in.

Relaxation & Stress Reduction
When your body is in a state of relaxation, it is able to repair itself at the deepest level. In this state, your brain and nerves become more synchronized and calm — creating the perfect stage for health and healing. This means less static in your nervous system, better brain chemical balance, less inflammation, a calmer mind, more energy and better mood.

Transitional Care as Improvements Are Maintained
Once we see improvements that are maintained over time, we will start spacing visits out further apart. This usually occurs after 8 to 12 visits, with some individual variability. We will go from weekly visits to visits every 10 to 14 days, then once a month, then on an as-needed basis for “tuneups.” We are here for you, in case you have other healthcare issues you want to address, or feel like your anxiety or insomnia is prone to a flare-up during a particular time or activity. Of course, many of our patients wish to continue with regular maintenance, and we are always happy to work with you on that level, if that is your wish.
